Alleged Suspect: Mark Nathan Mulschlegel

DOB: 1985-04-21

Vancouverites, watch out if you see this suspected criminal prowling your neighbourhood. On Friday March 05, 2010, Mark Nathan Mulschlegel was suspected of breaking into someone’s garage and stealing their motorcycle. Mr. Mulschlegel then uploaded photos to his completely public Facebook account, boasting about his new “purchase”. Unbelievably, his stupidity grew to epic proportions when he decided to ride the bike at one of the most popular off-road riding areas in the valley, the very next day.

Here he is enjoying someone else’s property at the Stave Lake mud flats. The silver-ish coloured Ford Explorer Sport-Trac (license plate BV 3377) belongs to Mr. Mulschlegel (currently for sale):

Chain of events:

- Al’s KTM 525 bike was stolen early Friday morning
- incident posted on DSBC forums shortly afterwards
- bike was seen being transported early Friday morning in a vehicle + trailer matching that of suspects (Mark Nathan Mulschlegel & Phil Eurich). Unfortunately the person whom spotted it thought they saw a bike that “looked like Al’s bike”, but didn’t completely clue in until it was too late
- many of us scoured the Internet (Craigslist, Buy&Sell, various forums, etc, etc, etc) all day Friday & part of Saturday looking for the bike in a “for sale” ad — nothing was ever seen by any of us
- the next morning Mark Mulschlegel is seen sitting on the bike at the Stave Lake mud flats by a DSBC member. Phil Eurich is nearby
- Phil Eurich is first asked about the bike, & replies that Mulschlegel “had just got it”
- Mulschlegel is approached & asked about the bike. He replies that his dad had given it to him “a while ago”
- Mulschlegel & Eurich confronted with stolen bike info
- Mulschlegel & Eurich take a few minutes & come back with their freshly concocted “Craigslist” story
- Strangely (but not really that strange), Mulschlegel happily offers to relinquish ownership of the bike
- Police can’t/won’t charge Mark Mulschlegel & Phil Eurich because the bike is now considered “recovered by owner” (i.e., the cops were not involved in the recovery of the bike). Reasoning: it would encourage others to go out & settle the score for crimes against them & start citizen vigilantism, etc

Post bike recovery events chronology:

- Mulschlegel bragged/laughed about the theft on his completely public Facebook account
- Mulschlegel & Eurich begin to realize they are becoming celebrities
- Mulschlegel deletes any comments related to the theft & along with Eurich he closes/hides hisr Facebook account (Mark Mulschlegel later reappears as Mark Nel)
- Mulschlegel reacts by claiming he was “a rider” & that he’d never steal a bike, yet he was glove-less & wearing sneakers when he was as Stave Lake
- Mulschlegel sticks to his Craigslist story & claims he was the real victim because he was out “thousands” that he paid for the bike (but why was he so happy/eager to give up the bike?)
- Mulschlegel has no answer regarding his initial “my dad gave it to me a while ago” story
- Mulschlegel has no answer as to why his supposed just acquired multi-thousand dollar bike has been destroyed on its first outing (we now know the KTM has suffered engine meltdown — top & bottom ends — likely from hydro-lock
- Mulschlegel has no info about the person he bought it from. He does not have a name, phone #, lien report, receipt, or address of the person who “sold” him the bike
- Mulschlegel had no explanation as to why he was so eager to give up the bike when he supposedly had “just paid thousands for it”

Feel free to draw your own conclusions.

I’ve been waiting for this event for what seems like forever. Yes, every year when I leave the VMS the only thing on my mind is what the following year will bring. So here we are less than two weeks from the 2010 edition of the Vancouver Motorcycle Show and the anticipation is building. Pretty much anything on two wheels will find its way into the Abbotsford Tradex: battery powered bicycles to Goldwings, custom V8 choppers to Italian scooters — the show has something for everyone — even the quadders aren’t left out! This year Jason Britton will make an appearance! Although I’m not into stunting, I enjoy watching Jason’s TV show and look forward to meeting him at the show. Jason will be hanging out at the Parts Canada booth (#555) beside the Yamaha exhibit (floor plan). For those seeking autographs, Jason will be available during these dates/times:
