From the top of Gordys, Canterbury starts off as a wide rocky riverbed then gradually turns into single track. Things are pretty easy going as you move northward along the lowest part of the trail unless you’re a total squid like me and take a bath a la 1:23. It’s when Canterbury takes a turn eastward into the mountain slope that things become more difficult. If you pay attention to your surroundings and keep your speed up (i.e., do as I ask not as I do) you won’t expend unnecessary amounts of energy lifting/dragging your bike or cursing the Russian that’s leading you.

From a trail pace perspective, Canterbury has it all; you can fly along the wide lower section, crawl up some of the off-camber slopes, cross a few mossy rock formations, and tackle some large multi-level root systems.

This video shows my first crossing of Canterbury in the direction shown. I think this trail is going to be one of my favourites!
